Attendance:

Kyle

Dale

Eden

Angelo

Meeting start: 7:45 pm

Location: Kyle’s

1)      Crazy Flipper Fingers Showdown: Kyle had a great idea of starting a yearly match-up between the VRPA and CFF of Oregon.  We could both meet at Shorty’s in Seattle and have the showdown there.  We would bring our top 8 players willing to make the trip, and they would bring their best 8 to have some kind of match-up.  Kyle will contact a CFF member and get some feedback from them to get the ball rolling.  Hopefully this will be able to happen much sooner than later, and if it goes well, we can try to make it a May or June event yearly.

2)      T-shirts: Still trying to figure out a nice Logo for the front of the shirt, but we’re coming close to getting it just right.  Some features decided on included our VRPA banner font wrapped around a ball, flippers with the Williams-logo ‘V’ as well as sharpening of details around the ball.

3)      Website: Kyle requested that when non-members try to access Members-only sections, instead of the message “This forum is restricted to a specific group of users” we would like the message to read “This section is for VRPA Members only… to become a member, please contact vrpa@shaw.ca”.  Similarly if possible, the Committee Section should read “This section is for Committee Members only”.

4)      Group Size:  At the current time, pushing for growth in members is not an issue.  New members are always welcome, but with the current number of members who attend events, we feel we are just able to handle current capacity as it is, which leads us to…

5)      Hosting Tournaments: Getting hosts for events is getting tougher, and it is suspected that space to accommodate enough people is becoming an issue.  We may start looking into venues that can accommodate people better and have events there using either games present at that location, or having multiple members bring a game to use for the night in the selected venue.  Dale suggested he may be able to hold events at Go Bananas if need be, and Kyle also suggested that he may be able to work something out with Video Monster to do something similar.

6)      IFPA: After a short discussion, it has been decided that we will apply to have the VRPA League added to the International Flipper Pinball Association’s World Pinball Player Rankings.  Dale will be contacting the IFPA and getting them to contact Eden to work out all the details and pass along all necessary info.

7)      Tourney and League Formats:  After testing out the newest format in the last 2 Tournaments, some positives and negatives were discovered.  One big positive was the head-to-head play, again bringing some real excitement to the Tournament.  With that in mind, a new format for the 2007 League AND Tournaments will likely be implemented once the fine details are hammered out.  The basic premise will include people of similar skill (based on their league standings) playing AGAINST each other in multiple 4-player games.  Various points would be awarded for 1st to 4th place on each game played, and your total score at the end of the night would be EQUAL to the league points you earn.  The top players of the evening would also have a playoff to be Champion of that Tournament.  This is still just a work in progress, but will continue to be investigated to see if it is appropriate for the VRPA.  Regarding using other formats this year, Eden had discussed doing one Tournament with a PAPA style format where an entry would consist the player choosing 3 games (out of a bank of 4 to 6 games available) to create a ‘scorecard’.  The scores of the 3 games would be ranked against the other scores achieved on those games that were chosen to equal a Point Total for that scorecard.  Top players would make it to the final rounds for the championship.  Dale stepped up to say he would like to look into his Christmas Party being a 2-day event!!  This would make an excellent opportunity for this type of Tournament style, and would conveniently be like a test to see how well we could run a tournament that could be used at a Public VRPA event.  All these ideas will be looked into further at future Committee meetings.

8)      AGM:  It was reiterated that the AGM should be held separately from any Tournament this year, possibly on some kind of night where we have the meeting, and just play some games afterwards.

Meeting adjourned around 9:30 pm
